Exhibition launch: Australian exotica
16 April 2016
Please join us to launch the exhibition at 2pm.
Ever since the fifteenth century, the continent of Terra Australis has been thought of as an exotic place. This characterisation of Australia as a land down under, where things are out of the ordinary and colourfully unconventional, remains a key feature of our national identity. For many contemporary artists, this European vision is also something that needs to be subverted and critiqued. In this latest collection show from MGA, we engage with the theme of exotic antipodes and an Australian sense of place.
Also on view will be TOPshots which celebrates the best photomedia by VCE Art, Media & Studio Arts students from the classes of 2015.
Join a walkthrough of the exhibition with MGA Senior Curator Stephen Zagala on Saturday 16 April at 1pm Free event, all welcome. RSVP by email
