Friends of MGA Morning coffee & talk | David Fraser: Antique Maps and Charts. Exploring the art and science of cartography

17 June 2019

Dr. David Fraser is a retired Associate Professor from the RMIT University and finds that in retirement he has the time to follow his long held passion for cartography, photography and art.

Images of antique maps will be presented, copies of which have recently been catalogued for sale. The maps will be presented in chronological order of creation, with background information on why each map is of value. This information will include background to the cartographer, the publisher and some other historical details deemed relevant.

The market value of each map will then be revealed.

Threaded through the talk will be information on map dealers, while focusing on one in particular who was the subject of a book titled "The Map Thief".
